The Coach's Update

Cal Coast Racing Championship Update & Santa Monica 5/10K on 10/02

Santa Monica is the 7th race of the 9 in the USATF Grand Prix Series. If you haven't signed up yet you can run either the 5K or the 10K and USATF will count either race toward your Grand Prix score. Sign up at: http://www.active.com/running/santa-monica-ca/santa-monica-5000-2011 Make sure you use the USATF discount code beachUSATF and save $5 off the registration fee.

After 6 races in the USATF Grand Prix, Cal Coast has Richard Anderson (3rd overall / 3rd Men's), Yayoi Liu (8th overall / 3rd Women's), and Coach Sumner (9th overall) in the top 10. Others looking to make a move in Santa Monica will be Curt (12th), Dennis (17th), Mark (21st). Cal Coast boasts 10 runners in the top 50 - rounded out by Julie (36), Leon (38), Casey (39), and Ford (42).

Cal Coast is a solid 2nd place in the team standings with these last 3 races to make our move! Since this race is in Santa Monica The Janes, Gritty City Track Club, Club Ed, and Track Club LA will field strong teams. Cal Coast has been in the top 3 in every race so I hope you can participate and help the team keep up a great winning streak! As the race gets closer I'll send information on logistics and car-pooling. Join Coach on October 2.

USATF Roadmile on 08/28 - Update

USATF Roadmile Online registration ends on 08/25 (Thu) so if you haven't signed up yet make sure you beat the deadline. The price increases to $30 for USATF members after that.

Going into the 6th of the 9 USATF Grand Prix races, Richard Anderson leads the standings on the Men's side and Yayoi Liu is in the money at 5th place on the Women's side. Cal Coast is currently 2nd place in the Team Standings. We'll be looking to move up for the final push to the Team Championship! The Road Mile is an Orange County race so I hope that all of you can participate and show USATF that Cal Coast supports these events. I'll have the tent up so come early and watch some of the other races - we'll see you there.

Cal Coast Racing Championship - Semana-Nautica Update

Richard Anderson and Trevor Cox traveled to Santa Barbara to represent Cal Coast at the Semana Nautica 15K. Trevor finished 9th overall and 1st in the 30-34 age group and Richard moved from 3rd to 1st place in the Grand Prix standings.

Yayoi also represents Cal Coast with a 5th place on the Women's side and 11th overall. Coach (12th), Curt (22nd), Dennis (24th), Ford (25th), Mark (32nd), and Christine (47th) round out the top 50.

As a team we currently sit in 2nd place with a lot of momentum going into the Road Mile, 10K's, and Half Marathon.

The best 5 of 9 races count in the GrandPrix scoring so we will start to see some movement in the individual rankings with the next couple of races.

Make sure that you sign up and run these last 4 series races:

08/28 (Sun) - USATF Road Mile (@ Great Park, Irvine)
09/11 (Sun) - Santa Monica 10K
10/09 (Sun) - Long Beach Half Marathon
11/24 (Thu) - Dana Point Turkey Trot 10K

Good luck in the race for the 2011 Cal Coast Championship.
